Free admission to Sheshan church during Expo

VISITORS will be allowed free admission to Shanghai's landmark cathedral atop the city's highest peak on Sheshan Hill during the World Expo from May to October next year.

The church is shut for a major renovation and expected to reopen in late April, Sheshan tourism officials told today's Oriental Morning Post.

Improvements have been made to public toilets, parking lots and hiking paths around the hill, officials said.

Carefully designed lighting will be installed outside the church to make it a stunning centerpiece at night, officials added. The lighting has been designed not to disrupt astronomers at the next-door Sheshan Observatory.
