Free electric meter testing to dispel doubts
SHANGHAI power supplier promised to offer free door-to-door electric meter testing service if people suspect their meters are inaccurate, Shanghai Morning Post reported today.
Although the Shanghai Electric Power Co Ltd has explained the cause of a surge in January's power usage and blamed it on abnormal cold weather, skepticism about the new electric meters remains. Some residents even started to monitor the meter themselves to check if it has been rigged.
The power company said they would send professional electricians to homes if doubts are raised and would fix the meter if any problem was found, the newspaper said.
The company noted that the monthly meter reading was delayed to February 8 due to the Spring Festival holiday instead of the third day of each month, which could be another reason for higher bills.
