Fresh seafood on Expo 2010 menu

VISITORS to World Expo 2010 will be able to have fresh seafood sourced from a large seafood market in the city's Yangpu District.

Nearly 100 varieties of seafood from the Zhoushan and Wenling areas of neighboring Zhejiang Province will be available at Oriental International Seafood Center. Prices will be the same as in their fishing places, Yangpu vice governor Tang Hailong told today's Oriental Morning Post.

The market, covering 13,000 square meters, hopes to become a tourism attraction during the six-month World Expo that starts on May 1, 2010, the report said.

Eighteen seafood dealers from Zhejiang will open business at the market by the end of this month, according to market officials.

Meanwhile, an area nicknamed "Expo Watergate" will be set up on Yangpu's Qinhuangdao Road. The area will feature exhibits of five northern European countries including Denmark and Norway, Tang said.

The area, along with a fisherman's port on the road, will be the two Expo-themed projects along Yangpu's 15.5-kilometer riverside belt.

Watergate will open to the public in April, according to Tang.
