Gales shut down shipping on the Yangtze
GALES shut down shipping movements at the mouth of the Yangtze River yesterday but vessels began moving again early this morning, Wusong Port immigration police said.
The port police said nearly 100 ships had to cancel or delay journeys from yesterday noon as heavy winds swept through the area. Shipping resumed after 4am today when the winds dropped.
Lingering heavy fog had interrupted shipping in local waters for days last week, delaying hundreds of passenger and cargo vessels. Traffic had just returned to normal early this week after the maritime authority streamlined port procedures to get delayed ships back to sea as quickly as possible.
