Gambling ring in factory broken up
FOUR men have been detained for organizing gambling in a factory in Jinshan District, where police seized more than HK$2.3 million (US$295,201) and 100,000 yuan (US$15,657), authorities said yesterday.
Police got a tip in August that the suspects had set up a casino in a factory in Tinglin Town. No one stayed in the factory during the day, while at night luxury cars entered. Police said the gamblers would gather at night with "all the windows and doors shut and covered by cloth."
Police raided the site on Saturday and nabbed the organizers and gamblers.
The organizers said they would lure people from Shanghai and neighboring Zhejiang Province to the factory they rented in late July. The group also had one man in charge of loan sharking to the gamblers, police said.
Three gamblers from Zhejiang were fined 500 yuan and subject to 15-day detention.
