Gamer gets jail for seizing computers
IN the first case of its kind in Shanghai, a man was sentenced to jail for 11 months and fined 2,000 yuan (US$310) for illegally controlling computer systems.
The local resident, surnamed Xiang, hacked into other gamers' computers and then controlled them so he could perform well in Audition Dance Battle Online. The game is operated on the Chinese mainland by the Shanghai Everstar Online Entertainment Co.
From January to August in 2010, Xiang hacked 55 computers and manipulated other gamers' computers by launching attacks on the server of the online game network, which would cut off these gamers' links to the website.
He then would use the short period before others regained their connections to the network to reach the exalted status of "Room No. 100," the Xuhui District People's Court was told.
