Gang arrested over extorting expat at KTV bar

A gang of six members has been arrested over allegedly swindling an expat of more than 17,000 yuan (US$ 2,503), prosecutors said today.

Yangpu District Prosecutors' Office has issued the arrest warrant of the six gang members, who forced an American man to pay excessive high price for fake wine the American man consumed in a KTV parlor.

The prosecutors didn't disclose the name of the foreigner, who was invited by an unemployed man from Anhui Province to have a glass of wine together at the KTV bar when walking alone outside his hotel.

Having little cash on him, the expat was forced to pay 17,000 yuan on a POS machine the gang provided. The actual spending by the expat in the KTV should be 700 yuan.

With a great influx of visitors into the city during the World Expo period, the prosecutors warned people turn to police for help immediately in case of similar incidents.
