Gang who prey on deliverymen are nabbed

THREE suspects have been detained for allegedly stealing parcels from deliverymen in the city's Yangpu District, police said today.

The suspects usually followed the deliverymen and stole the goods on their bikes once they went into a nearby building.

The trio had committed such theft more than 10 times since May, stealing goods valued about 50,000 yuan (US$7,367).

Police had retrieved most of the stolen items and were still investigating the case.

On July 8, a deliveryman surnamed Lin lost seven mail-order goods parcles, including a package of cordyceps sinensis, 15 cell phones and some T-shirts, when Lin left his bike for just a few minutes to deliver goods to a customer in a residential complex on Guokang Road.

A similar case happened on July 24 in another residential complex on Zhoujiazui Road.

The suspects were caught on August 12 in an Internet cafe in Hongkou District, police said.

Police urged delivery companies to take necessary caustions and adviced deliverymen to park their bikes in the sight of the security guards in a residential complex.
