Girl, 18, killed in print shop explosion

AN 18-year-old girl was killed in the early hours of today when her family's print shop exploded and caught fire on Hefei Road, Luwan District.

Three nearby shops also burned down and firemen rescued about 10 people but no one else was hurt, said Luwan police.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the explosion. They found the girl's body when the fire had been put out.

Police said the print shop was owned by a couple from Zhejiang Province and the young victim was their daughter.

A witness surnamed Ni, who owned a shop nearby, said the explosion woke him up and he saw fireballs blasting out of the shop.

"The couple ran out of their print shop immediately as they lived closer to the back door," said Ni.

"But the girl didn't make it as she slept in the loft and the blaze swept over the paper and ink too fast."
