Girl, 2, drowns in river while grandmother picked shallots
A 2-year-old girl fell into a river accidentally and drowned on Tuesday in Shanghai’s Donghai Village in the Pudong New Area. Her grandmother was away when the accident happened, Eastday.com reported today.
The girl fell into a river while her grandmother was picking shallots in a nearby vegetable patch, the report said. The girl was pulled out from the 1-meter-deep water and died in a hospital despite emergency treatment.
A witness claimed a neighbor had warned the grandmother not to let the girl play near the river.
There are warning signs along the river, the report said.
