Girl falls from school after caught 'cheating'

A GIRL suspected of cheating in a test fell from the fourth floor of her school in Yangpu District yesterday morning.

She suffered spinal fractures and is being treated in hospital.

The Grade 9 student was a pupil at the Kongjiang Middle School, which launched a mid-term examination yesterday.

She fell from the school building about 9am.

The girl, surnamed Sun, had been caught cheating in the test and jumped off the building after that, according to her classmates.

She fell onto a tree in a flower bed close to the building, breaking her fall, witnesses said.

Schools officials called the police and an ambulance rushed her to nearby Xinhua Hospital.

Sun was treated in the intensive care unit.

She was transferred to an orthopedics ward later yesterday afternoon.

School officials declined to comment on the incident, which is the subject of a police investigation.

Altogether eight students died after falling from buildings last year, according to a previous report by the city's education authorities.
