Glitch in Metro pass allows only 1 ride

BARGAIN hunters were astonished to find that some Metro passes they bought online for 10 discounted rides expire after just one ride.

Shanghai's Metro operator teamed up with Gaopeng.com, the group purchase website, to offer a 10-ride pass, with the face value of 80 yuan (US$12.84), for 41 yuan last month. The good deal was snatched up within days.

However, some passengers were steamed when their tickets got them only one ride. "The ticket just won't work anymore," a rider, surnamed Wang, told Xinmin Evening News.

Gaopeng admitted yesterday that the failure, which involved 1,887 tickets, was caused by "technical glitches in ticket production." They said they had detected the problem and started recalling the tickets.

A customer service worker said buyers can go to the Xujiahui and People's Square stations where they picked up tickets to verify whether the passes have problems. "Passengers can exchange for new ones there," the website said.
