Graft figures up
THE number of city officials involved in corruption cases jumped by nearly 43 percent in the first half of the year, compared to the same period in 2010, local prosecutors announced yesterday.
The Shanghai Prosecutors' Office handled 18 malpractice cases involving 20 officials in the first six months this year. Prosecutors put the increase down to more tip-offs from the public and an intensified crackdown. In the same period, the total number of graft cases in the city rose 6 percent to 163 cases, with 199 people charged, prosecutors said.
