Graphene fiber products hit market

A new graphene fiber developed by a local company has been recognized by the nation’s top science body and has been used to produce clothes, sports wear and underwear products.

The technology, which makes graphene completely combined with high polymer materials under room temperature, adds special function to ordinary textile products like antibacterial, ultraviolet-proof, anti-static and heat preservation effects.

An expert appraisal meeting organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology confirmed that the graphene fiber preparation technology developed by Shanghai Kyorene New Material Technology Co, which won patent home and abroad, has been in line with the leading level in the world.

Graphene is the lightest and thinnest material detected by human so far, while it is also the strongest one. “The new technology makes graphene fully combined with fiber and tests on textile products made by the fibers have special functions,” said Bai Yongxiao from Lanzhou University, a leading scientist on graphene research in China.

Qu Jing, vice director of China National Textile and Apparel Council, said the success of graphene fiber development can help produce new textile materials and enhance China’s competence in the international field.
