Ground broken for Changxing fishing port
A NEW fishing port will be built on Shanghai's Changxing Island to handle local seafood catches within two years.
Ground was broken yesterday for the port, which will feature a modern fishery with trade, restaurants and sightseeing, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.
The island sits at the mouth of the Yangtze River between Pudong and Chongming Island.
There will be a fixed dock and three floating docks as well as two 3,000-ton berths and nine 500-ton berths. A town nearby will provide support for the port, which will be able to handle 120,000 tons of fish annually within five years.
