Gymnast and stars celebrate Romania Day
NADIA Comaneci, the queen of gymnastics who was awarded the first perfect score in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, turned up at the Romania Pavilion yesterday to offer autographs to lucky visitors.
Comaneci's presence at the World Expo was to celebrate the Romania Pavilion today, which coincided with Romania's National Anthem Day. This commemorates the Romanian Revolution in 1848.
Besides Comaneci, the former Romanian football player Gheorghe Hagi and one of the world's top professional tennis players of the 1970s, Ilie Nastase, also visited the pavilion for its big day today.
The National Radio Orchestra, featuring artists Grigore Lese and Damian Draghici, will perform at the Expo Center this evening.
The pavilion is also promoting the country's tourism industry, with special offers for Chinese visitors and investors.
"Chinese visitors and investors are warmly welcomed to Romania, because they will discover a series of fun and business opportunities there," said Teodor Baconschi, Romanian Minster of Foreign Affairs.
The Romania Pavilion, "The Green Megalopolis," has attracted over two million visitors during the past three months of operation. The two millionth visitor, a 36-year-old local resident, last Saturday won a opportunity to visit Romania with his friend.
