Hangzhou shows off silk culture

THE Hangzhou Pavilion at the Urban Best Practices Area is displaying a colorful array of silk products for which the city is famous.
The exhibition opened yesterday with a silk fashion show accompanied by drum music and flamenco dance performed by foreign artists.
Being the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), Hangzhou is also known as the "Capital of Silk" with its long tradition of sericulture and silk making. The Hangzhou Silk City is China's biggest silk wholesale and retail market.
With the 12th West Lake International Expo taking place in Hangzhou next month, the silk exhibition at the Hangzhou Pavilion is a preview before its official opening in Hangzhou.
