Heavy smog chokes Shanghai again

Smoggy conditions continue in Shanghai this morning as the air worsens to heavily polluted.

The air quality index peaked at 234 at 9am, with the main smog pollutant PM2.5 particles reaching over 184 micrograms per cubic meter, said the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center.

People with weak respiratory systems are advised to stay indoors today.

From today through Thursday, a high pressure front will dominate the city weather bringing sunny spells and highs touching 18 degrees. The low will remain around 10 degrees.

The dry spell is set to end on Friday, as showers are forecast. But the rain won’t bring temperatures down, with the high hovering around 19 degrees and the low up to 14 degrees.
