'Helper' stole from elderly

A WOMAN surnamed Deng was jailed for seven and a half years yesterday by the Yangpu District People's Court for stealing from two elderly men.
Deng, from Anhui Province, pretended to be a domestic helper to steal cash and bank books after giving the men medicine to make them sleep. She stole 600 yuan (US$88) from one and 1,800 yuan and two bank deposit books from the other a few days later. She withdrew 21,000 yuan from the bank using the books.
