Highway littering a problem in Shanghai

A survey on the problem of littering on the city's elevated highways showed that about 68 percent of car drivers and 95 percent of truck and bus drivers have the habit of throwing garbage out of the window.
The survey was conducted by the Municipal Office of Civil Ethics and the Shanghai College Student Alliance for Environment as an activity to mark the June 5th World Environment Day.
The survey has received feedback from more than 500 respondents and 97 percent of them say they consider littering on elevated highways a bad behavior, but 68 percent of car drivers and 95 percent of truck and bus drivers say they do that just for convenience.
The company that does maintenance for elevated highways says its workers remove many tons of garbage from the Inner Ring Road every month, mostly cigarette packs, food wrappers, plastic bottles, and tissues.
