THE city's transport administration said it will add buses and extend service hours on routes near local temples tomorrow evening, Chinese New Year's Eve and the following morning, to accommodate the crowds of worshippers.
Preying for health and good luck at a temple on New Year's Eve and the morning of New Year's Day is one of the traditional ways to celebrate the occasion.
Bus routes around local temples, including No. 44, 54 and 57, will run later into the night tomorrow and start earlier on Monday morning.
Officials said 600 additional taxis and buses will be on call to back up taxi and bus services at Hongqiao Airport. As the city's older and smaller air terminal, the airport can sometimes suffer a lack of taxis during peak times.
Post Offices
Major post offices in the city will keep windows open to provide mail and parcel services throughout the holidays. Most branch post offices will open from 7am as usual from tomorrow to next Saturday, but will close earlier than their usual time of 7pm. Smaller post agencies will be closed tomorrow, according to the Shanghai Post Co.
Banks
More than half of the city's major banks will remain open throughout the Lunar New Year holiday.
Most branches in commercial areas and residential districts will stay open but those near office districts are likely to close from tomorrow to Tuesday.
China Merchants Bank will keep running all its 47 outlets during the holidays. However, operating hours from tomorrow to Tuesday will be shortened to 10am to 3pm. From Wednesday, they will be back to regular hours.
Agricultural Bank of China will ensure over 70 percent of its 400 or so outlets remain open, though most will work half days tomorrow and Monday. ATM machines, cash deposit machine and self-service banks will be available around the clock.
Around 60 to 70 percent of Bank of China's 200 outlets will stay open while half of Bank of Communications' outlets will be open for business.

Emergency services are available all day and night during the festival, said the Shanghai Health Bureau.
