Holiday boost for local commerce
THE Chinese New Year holiday was a boom time for local commerce, said the Shanghai Holiday Office. Tourists coming to the city each spent 943 yuan on average (US$149).
The city's consumers' hotline 12315 received 401 complaints during the holiday, down by about 7 percent on the last Chinese New Year holiday. And Shanghai cleaned 106,335 tons of non-industrial garbage during the seven-day holiday, 0.53 percent less than last year, said the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau. Officials said the drop in garbage was mainly because fewer firecrackers and fireworks were set off this year.
