Home-based businesses to be granted licences
LOCAL industrial and commercial authorities are to issue business licenses for people wanting to start businesses at home, as long as they don't disturb their neighbors, officials said yesterday.
Eligible businesses would include translation, software development, and animation and comic design, said the Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau.
"Previously, people who started businesses at home wouldn't have a business license as they didn't have a separate office," said Chen Xuejun, deputy director of the bureau.
"As rents in Shanghai are high, we will give favorable treatment to individuals wanting to start businesses," he said.
The new policy is to encourage people to start their own businesses and create more jobs, officials said.
Last week, the bureau said students who begin their own companies within two years of graduation would not be restricted by capital limits.
