Hospitals launch nationwide epilepsy study to build biological databases
Led by Fudan University, 10 domestic leading hospitals kicked off a nationwide epilepsy study to set up biological databases, look for new biological mark and develop new drug and research measures for early diagnosis, intervention and treatment.
There are 65 million epilepsy patients in the world and over 10 million are in China, the fact of which, imposes strong disease care burden on their families as well as the government, according to Dr Wang Yi, vice president of Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, the project chief.
The study will research 20,000 samples including 15,000 children and younger people as well as 5,000 adults with epilepsy to do detailed analysis for genetic testing to look for mutated genes.
"We want to work out genetic map for Chinese epilepsy patients and look for new biological marks for molecular treatment models and improve the regular clinical treatment," she said.
The study will be fulfilled in December of 2018.
