Husband 'burned alive as he slept'

A WOMAN has been charged with murdering her husband by pouring gasoline over him and setting it alight, Minhang District People's Procuratorate said yesterday.

According to prosecutors, the 26-year-old accused, whose surname is Dong, killed her husband because she felt he ill-treated her.

Prosecutors said Dong poured the gasoline on her husband, surnamed Fu, while he was asleep on March 1.

She then lit the gasoline and ran away, it is claimed.

Fu was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Dong bought a plastic bucket at a grocery store in Pujiang Town in Minhang District at about 10pm that night, prosecutors said.

Then she duped a motorcyclist into helping her get gasoline by claiming that her vehicle had run out of gas and persuading him to take her to a gas station.

As gas station staff would only fill vehicles, Dong took three liters of gas from the motorcyclist's fuel tank and gave him cash to refill it, said prosecutors.

Dong was caught in her hometown several days later.
