ID required for Hangzhou visitors to Expo

VISITORS from Hangzhou, capital of Shanghai's neighboring Zhejiang Province, must show their identity certificates when buying bus tickets to Shanghai's World Expo, which runs from May through October.

This is among new security measures unveiled by the Zhejiang transport authority for the event, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.

The measures are said to be stricter than those in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

All traffic entering Shanghai must install GPS to give real-time reports of their whereabouts, according to the authority.

Hangzhou sends 160 shuttle buses to Shanghai every day carrying more than 2,000 people. It expects a sharp increase in passengers during the Expo.
