Iconic historic bridge reopens to traffic

WAIBAIDU Bridge on the Bund reopened to traffic at 5am this morning, 20 hours ahead of the scheduled finishing time of the reparation work, Shanghai Road Administration Bureau said.

A part of the structure of the iconic 109-year-old bridge on the eastern side was broken and distorted after a truck hit the bridge at about 5am on April 25.

Shanghai Research Institute of Building Sciences Group, the company which is responsible for monitoring the power structure of the bridge, said it will keep watching on factors affecting the stability of the bridge including weight and temperature.

Reparation on the bridge started on June 5 and a few lanes on the bridge had to be closed and a few night bus lines rerouted.
