THE Shanghai government had demolished 1.69 million square meters of illegal structures in key areas including around the Expo zone, along major traffic routes and the riverside by May, the Shanghai Urban and Rural Construction and Transport Commission and Shanghai Greenery and Urban Sanitation Bureau said yesterday.
It has demolished 93.7 percent of the illegal structure earmarked for demolition in the plan announced at the 600-day countdown to the 2010 World Expo.
