Industrial jobs top for migrants
LARGE and medium-sized companies in four sectors employed more migrant workers than locals last year, the Shanghai Statistics Bureau said yesterday.
Of the 6.5 million people working in such firms, more than 3.3 million were non-natives, the bureau said, citing the results of a survey.
Migrant workers outnumbered locals in construction, hospitality, manufacturing and service, it said.
Of the migrant workers, 45 percent were employed in manufacturing and 18 percent in construction, it said.
Women accounted for 36 percent of all workers, with most working in manufacturing, wholesale and retail.
