INMATES can now earn a college degree as Shanghai opened the country's first prison "campuses" yesterday.
Co-established by the Shanghai Prison Administrative Bureau and Shanghai Open University, Shanghai Qingpu Prison, Tilanqiao Prison, Baimaoling Prison and Baoshan Prison will be the first jails to participate in the program. It will eventually cover all 13 prisons under the bureau.
Forty-seven inmates at Shanghai Qingpu Prison yesterday attended their first behind bars class on courses in public relations and social etiquette.
