Inmates offered extra chance to reunite with family before New Year

Prisoners in Nanhui Prison of Shanghai performed on Wednesday to celebrate the approaching Spring Festival and 39 relatives of inmates were invited to reunite with their family members behind bars.
Instead of being separated by windows in visiting room, the prisoners and relatives had a chance to hold hands face to face and watched singing, dancing and instrument playing performed by other inmates.
“Prisoners also miss their families and longed for reunion, especially on holidays like Spring Festival,” said Wang Yi, party chief of the prison, “And we wish to reward those who have been doing well with this precious chance and encourage others to rectify their problems more actively.”
Nanhui Prison was opened in 2007 with most of its inmates old, sick or disabled.
