International Yoga Day celebrated in Shanghai
OVER 500 people turned up at Jing’an Park to mark the second International Day of Yoga, which was organized by the Consulate General of India in Shanghai.
Titled “Nine Cities, Nine Days, Bringing together Nine Thousand Yoga Lovers,” the event was conducted in nine cities in eastern China in cooperation with local governments.
Two yoga teachers demonstrated the art of yoga to the audience. Despite high temperatures, participants practiced yoga for 55 minutes.
A 66-year-old retired music teacher, surnamed Huang, said young people do yoga to stay fit, while elders like her do it for health reasons.
The yoga celebrations is an important part of people’s daily lives that transcends our material pursuits, said Prakash Gupta, the consul general of India in Shanghai.
On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as an International Day of Yoga.
