Intoxicated driver gets detained

A MAN will be detained for 15 days after he seriously injured three people while driving drunk, traffic police said yesterday.
The man surnamed Wu ran into three people with his van in a downtown residential community in Pudong on June 24.
Before the accident, Wu drank a lot of liquor and several bottles of beer, according to police.
Officer Chen Jianguo said after the incident Wu "was too drunk to answer any questions."
The incident happened at 7:50pm when the three victims, two women and a man who are neighbors, were on their way home after having dinner. A van crashed into them from behind as they entered their complex.
"I thought I would die at that time," said one victim surnamed Yuan, who had eight ribs broken.
All three were lying on the ground when police arrived.
Police tracked down the damaged van, which was parked in the complex, and nabbed Wu.
His blood alcohol level was 1.55 milligrams per milliliter, almost eight times the legal limit of 0.2 milligrams per milliliter.
