Jealous lover stabbed 'rival' 20 times: Police

A MAN has been charged with causing deliberate injury after allegedly stabbing a "rival" whom he mistakenly thought had broken up he and his girlfriend.

The victim suffered more than 20 stab wounds and seriously injured. But the girlfriend told police the victim was just a friend and no more, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

Police didn't name the trio, citing a right to privacy.

The man was anxious to mend his relationship with the woman after she wanted to break up in August, he allegedly told police.

Aware that she was due to have dinner with the "rival" on September 13, he waited outside the restaurant in downtown Jing'an District and accosted the man when they left, allegedly stabbing him more than 20 times with a fruit knife.
