Jiading District to have world’s hospital for stem cell transplant

The world’s biggest stem cell transplant hospital will start being constructed in Shanghai’s Jiading District next year, China Cord Blood Group and Shanghai Cord Blood Bank released at a stem cell transplant summit in Shanghai yesterday.

Since being established 12 years ago, China Cord Blood Group has stored nearly 60,000 units of umbilical cord blood so far. A total of 1,600 cases of cord blood transplant has been fulfilled at some 50 hospitals in the nation.

According to experts, China now has 5 million leukemia patients and half of them are children. Umbilical cord blood transplant is an effective measure for leukemia and immunity disease treatment and over half of leukemia children in the United States and Japan use this therapy.
