Jilted singer faces charges over robbery
A KTV singer hired five men to rob her lover in a bid to teach him a lesson for betraying her, Luwan District prosecutors said yesterday.
The singer, Lin Hua, and the five men have all been arrested and charged with robbery.
Lin, 43, has been working as a singer for many years.
She met victim Li Xiaoshuai, a native of eastern China's Anhui Province nearly 20 years younger than her, online a year ago.
They soon became lovers.
Li told Lin he worked for an overseas investment company and offered to do foreign-exchange transactions for her, claiming it was lucrative.
Lin then gave him 70,000 yuan (US$10,254) and Li lost all the money within a day.
"I didn't care whether he won or lost money," Lin told prosecutors. "But I suspected he cheated me of my money and was unfaithful as well."
She asked a friend, Liu Hongfei, for help and Liu introduced other friends to her.
Lin promised to pay them 20,000 yuan if they helped her get back the money, prosecutors said.
After the suspects discussed a plan of action, Lin arranged to meet Li at a hotel on Sinan Road on March 16. As soon as Li entered the room, he was beaten by the men Lin hired.
He was forced to admit to having affairs with other women and had his bank cards stolen.
The suspects forced him to reveal his password and withdrew 34,000 yuan in cash from the accounts.
Before they left, they also took Li's two cell phones, prosecutors said.
Lin later paid them 10,000 yuan.
