Job fair for students returning from France
A job fair was held in Shanghai on Saturday by the French Embassy in China, Campus France China and France Alumni China with about 30 French companies.
The event mainly targeted Chinese graduates from French universities and institutions, but was also open to other job hunters.
"With more and more Chinese students returning to China after overseas study, we hope to support those who have studied in France to find jobs, especially in French companies in China, who also need talents who know both cultures and languages of our two countries," said Siegfried Fau, director of the Shanghai center of Campus France, the French national agency for the promotion of higher education and international student services.
Li Lun, manager of a human resources company, said the event was necessary as the competition in job market had been growing more and more fierce as more and more Chinese students chose to return to China after overseas study, rather than staying in foreign countries, due to complicated reasons, such as sense of cultural belonging and economic situations.
"They not only compete with peers returning from France, but also those returning from all over the world," he said.
He also reminded future students going to France to keep learning English as it was the main working languages in international companies in China and it would add to their advantages in job market.
The job fair was also simultaneously held in Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang and Wuhan.
France is one of the popular destinations for overseas study among Chinese students, with the applicants increasing year by year.
Last year, 11,000 Chinese students kicked off their study in France, making the total number of Chinese students in France reach 40,000.
Anthony Lopez, vice director of Shanghai branch of the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China, said the Chamber's 1,600 members welcomed Chinese students returning from France.
Christy Zhou, support hub manager of Skema Business School's Suzhou Campus, said they needed more talent in operating the offshore campus as China was a huge market and the Chinese in the Suzhou Campus had risen to about 500 since it was established in 2008.
"We welcome talents from all kinds of backgrounds, but I have to say people with experience in France will easier to adapt to our school culture and working style as we are a French school," she said.
The school offered five jobs at the fair.
