Kidnapper of four jailed for life

MOTIVE remains a mystery after a man from a rich family was jailed for life for kidnapping four people and taking more than 400,000 yuan (US$58,565) in ransom.
His girlfriend was also jailed for 11 years as an accomplice by Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court, according to Shanghai Morning Post report today.
Wang Xiaowei and his girlfriend Li Xueling were caught after a car crash in neighboring Jiangsu Province on October 6, 2008, where a passenger surnamed Sun was injured.
Police discovered he was being held to ransom by four kidnappers, including two other injured passengers Wang Peng, Wang Xiaowei's younger brother, and He Xinzheng.
Shanghai prosecutors found Wang, Li and another three accomplices kidnapped three other victims at midnight and in a similar way.
