Landmark Agreement
SHANGHAI government and Internet companies signed a copyright protection agreement yesterday and will strengthen crackdowns on online piracy, city officials said.
Eight firms, including Shanda Interactive and Tudou.com, signed a joint agreement yesterday promising not to use pirated content in future and to delete existing pirated content.
"Shanghai continues to strive to create a healthy Internet environment and the copyright issue is a key problem," according to Cai Jiwan, deputy director of the Shanghai Press and Publication Bureau.
The bureau shut down 371 websites for IPR violations last year.
