Largest moon in 12 years to appear tomorrow
THE moon will look larger than it has in 12 years tomorrow night as it will be at its nearest point to the Earth, Xinhua News Agency reported today.
The moon will appear one-sixth larger than usual, said Wang Sichao, a researcher of Zijinshan Observatory of Chinese Academy of Science. And the good news for amateur astronomers is that the weather forecast calls for clear skies tomorrow.
The moon will appear 16 percent larger than usual as it moves to the nearest point to Earth at 7pm tomorrow. The moon will be 357,500 kilometers, 26,900 km closer than average, from the planet. A full moon can be seen on Sunday night if weather conditions permit.
