Last installment of controversial blockbuster 'Tiny Times' to hit cinemas next month

Popular writer-turned-director Guo Jingming's fourth and the last installment of the "Tiny Times” romance drama film franchise will hit cinemas across China on July 9.

Written and directed by post-1980s top-earning writer Guo Jingming, the film is about a group of young people’s delicate relationships and challenges from work after college graduation.

With vast fan bases, the former 3 installments of "Tiny Times" made more than 1.3 billion yuan at the box office, a record for domestic film series.

"It has been 10 years since the early creation of the story and characters," said Guo. "We have had a lot of fun during the shooting. The film series about friendship and young love has really impressed a young generation of people."

Today's festival also witnessed more Internet media companies engaged into China's flourishing film industry.

The Orient Time Internet Media announced its “220 Investment Program” at the festival. Projects about copyright and investment collaboration with Hollywood and South Korea film makers will be launched.

The new batch of Chinese movies or co-productions will take into account the popular themes such as action, comedy, idol drama and loving stories.

The media company will also launch Sofa Movie which is based on national cable TV and networks operators.

Through TV or mobile phone terminals, Sofa Movie is able to let its viewers watch the theatrical movies at home within 45 days after the cinema release.

By the end of the year, Sofa Movie’s cable digital TV users will total 21 million around 15 provinces in China.

Meanwhile, officials from Shanghai Theater Academy announced that they will establish a cultural venture capital fund of 1.5 billion yuan.

The fund will invest in promising Chinese projects of film, theater, animation and creative design.

Original students' pitches from the college are also expected to be developed into big screen productions.

China's box office takings totaled 29.7 billion yuan last year and it is expected to have at least a 30 percent increase annually.
