Lipstick livestreamer to get hukou

Chinese beauty livestreamer Austin Li, or Li Jiaqi, who was dubbed as the 鈥渒ing of lipsticks,鈥 will be granted residency by Shanghai鈥檚 Chongming District.

He was on yesterday鈥檚 list of the first batch of special talent to be given hukou, or permanent residency, in Shanghai this year.

For those seeking to settle in Shanghai, a hukou is necessary as it provides you convenience and benefits in areas such as house purchase, pensions and children鈥檚 education.

Li鈥檚 recommendations often sell out instantly and become the holy grail for thousands of beauty lovers.

Many are impressed with his catchphrase: 鈥淥h, my god! This is so gorg (gorgeous), buy, buy, buy!鈥 whenever he is stunned by a new lipstick.

Born in 1992 in Yueyang, central China鈥檚 Hunan Province, Li began work as a beauty consultant for L鈥橭real after graduating from college majoring in art design. His career took off in 2016 when he was signed as a livestreamer on Alibaba鈥檚 e-commerce platform Taobao selling beauty products. By 2019, he had nearly 50 million followers on major social media platforms.

He holds the Guinness world record for trying the most lipsticks within 30 seconds and even outsold Jack Ma, the co-founder of Alibaba Group, in lipsticks during the 2018 Double 11 shopping festival organized by Ma. In 2019, he was on Forbes China鈥檚 鈥渓ist of elites under 30.鈥 Li holds 99 percent of the shares in Shanghai Qisheng Management and Consulting Co, which was founded in June 2019 in Chongming.

Li said in one interview the booming economy of Shanghai was the major reason for him to want to settle here.
