Local TED forum draws 350 enthusiasts

MORE than 350 art lovers yesterday gathered at the Knowledge & Innovation Community in the city's Wujiaochang area to join TEDxFiveStarSquare, a spin-off from the US-based Technology Entertainment and Design project.

Held in Shanghai for the first time by a team of students from Fudan University, Shanghai International Studies University and East China University of Political Science and Law, TEDxFiveStarSquare invited 17 speakers, including academics, chefs, musicians, entrepreneurs and artists, to talk about their creative ideas for 18 minutes each.

Founded in 1984, TED is a global set of conferences owned by the private non-profit Sapling Foundation. Past TED presenters included Bill Clinton, Jane Goodall, Malcolm Gladwell, Al Gore, Gordon Brown, Richard Dawkins, Bill Gates, Salman Khan, Larry Page, Sergey Brin and many Nobel laureates.
