Local charity offers relief to fire victims
THE Shanghai Charity Foundation today distributed 500,000 yuan (US$75,284) to the survivors of a deadly fire that claimed 53 lives yesterday in Jing'an District.
The fire in the 28-story residential building on Jiaozhou Road also injured about 100 people and took firemen more than four hours to put out.
The foundation also delivered relief supplies valued at 200,000 yuan last night, including clothes, quills and pillows to help the survivors get through the freezing night as the temperature dropped to 8 degrees Celsius.
Foundation officials are also calling on the public to lend a hand to the survivors and the families of the victims.
