Local woman throws 2-year-old daughter out of 9th-floor window

A woman was detained after allegedly throwing her two-year-old daughter out of the window of their 9th-floor apartment early Thursday morning, Pudong police confirmed.
The girl was still in critical condition at hospital by this evening, the hospital said.
"Brain hemorrhage and several broken organs. That's what she had suffered from the fall," said Xia Lin, a media coordinator of the Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, on Thursday afternoon.
The 35-year-old mother, surnamed Luo, looked "out of her mind" when she was questioned, police said. She would not answer when asked whether she had been diagnosed of mental diseases.
Luo's husband was out of town when the incident happened, according to the hospital and her neighbors.
"We were playing badminton when we heard a woman babbling something aloud in an upper flat. Then a little child, all naked, fell down and landed in the greeneries on the ground," a woman living in the residential complex near Hunan Highway told Shanghai Daily. "It took place around 6:40am", she added.
Blood flowed from her nose and the child was crying while her body trembled. The witness said they rushed to put a coat on her to keep her warm.
“Then the woman came down, clad with only underwears and looking wild. When she's asked why she threw the baby down, she said ‘what are you talking about?’."
Some residents told Shanghai that they also saw the woman's elder daughter, 8, knocking at door of her neighbors, saying "mom has gone crazy".
