Longer stays for foreign talent
FIVE foreigners have become the first allowed to stay for up to five years in Shanghai as the city introduces a new entry policy in Pudong to attract high-end overseas talents.
Their spouses and children are entitled to stay for the same period, police said.
From today, foreigners working with Pudong companies and who have local awards as "Shanghai's honorary residents" or a "Magnolia Award" will be able to apply for a stay for up to five years in Shanghai.
Other high-ranking foreigner professionals and management staff with institutes and companies in Pudong will be able to apply to stay for three to five years.
They include expat researchers at city and state-level research institutes and universities, leading management staff with foreign invested companies and companies with registered capital above US$3 million. Senior managers and professionals with international companies in Shanghai regional headquarters will also be entitled to the longer stay.
