Loose metal removed from Nanpu Bridge's nameplate

The piece of loose metal in Nanpu Bridge’s nameplate was removed last night to prevent it from falling on people below, the Shanghai Road Administration Bureau said.

The bureau said the piece would be sent to a factory so that it can be replaced. It was not clear how big the piece of metal was, but the bridge’s nameplate contains four Chinese characters, each weighting about 250kg. The loose piece was from part of one character.

Some lanes on the bridge were closed last night to allow workers to remove the piece of metal.

The lanes reopened by 10:30pm, the bureau said.
