Lots to expect in Shanghai Citizens Art Festival as schedule released
ORGANIZERS of the Shanghai Citizens Art Festival released the schedules of 6,500 or so cultural events this autumn at the city's major cultural venues and local community centers.
More than 14,000 public events have been held in summer, attracting millions of people.
According to Xiao Yeying, an organizer of the festival, a few cultural and art competition, exhibition, workshops and public lectures will be offered to local residents.
A city-wide contest of traditional Chinese language culture will host its final on September 26. The contest has attracted more than 80,000 contestants to compete in traditional Chinese poems, verses, couplets and proverbs.
Officials said that the competition is expected to be developed into an annual program to raise young people's awareness of the charm of traditional Chinese culture.
Competitions also cover handicraft, family story-telling and traditional Chinese opera singing.
Modern artworks will also be put on display at the city's parks, metro stations and shopping malls. Citizens and experts will select out 100 the most beautiful city landscapes and venues.
Meanwhile citizens will be offered a series of performances of chamber concert, dance drama, Kunqu Opera and American ballads. An exhibition of international musical instruments will also be held from October 14 to 17 at the New International Expo Center.
The Shanghai Citizens Art Festival will run till the end of the year.
