Lovesick courier man drugs female client to rape her when picking up package at her home: prosecutors
A deliveryman on suspicion of raping a woman, one of his regular clients, is undergoing a probe and will face the charge of rape, prosecutors in Minhang District said Monday.
The married man, surnamed Xiang, allegedly once was declined by the victim, surnamed Meng, who is an online store owner, when he demanded they started a relationship.
He allegedly made the woman fall unconscious by putting sleeping powder into the water she drank when he was called again to pick up a package from her home, prosecutors claimed.
According to prosecutors, Xiang fell in love with the woman after he had serviced the client for delivery business for nearly six months. He had pursued her, sending her messages and asking for a romantic relationship but was never replied by Meng.
He allegedly bought some sleeping power online at the cost of 165 yuan on March 18 and received the drug two days later. He allegedly searched for "drugs that cause people lose consciousness" online and found that online store. Investigators found the drug he bought is actually similar to sleeping pills.
He later went to Meng's apartment with the drug on him when asked again by the client to deliver another business parcel for her. Xiang allegedly told Meng he was very thirsty and was allowed to fetch some water by himself. Xiang allegedly got two cups of water and put the powder in the one for the woman. She soon felt dizzy and nearly lost consciousness after drinking the water and Xiang allegedly raped her during that period.
The suspect said he soon confessed to the rape and had asked for forgiveness from the victim after she woke up. Meng reported the incident to police and Xiang was soon arrested.
During the questioning, Xiang told prosecutors that he is married and has a one-year-old daughter and he felt remorseful.
