Malls plunge into darkness

A 40-MINUTE blackout plunged several downtown shopping malls into darkness last night.
The power cut affected lighting, elevators and air-conditioning at the some floors of Jiuguang Department Store in Jing'an District and Hui Jin Department Store in Xuhui District at 6:30pm. Power supplies were restored at 7:10pm. A technical failure in an electric cable in Xuhui caused the blackout and investigations into the incident are continuing, the Shanghai Electric Power Co Ltd said last night.
